Albert Einstein Begonia Pots
Handcrafted pottery, inspired by a genius — rooted in history ๐ฑ๐ง
A Living Link to Einstein
What if you could own a living piece of history — a plant descended from one that once sat in Albert Einstein’s own office at Princeton?
These one-of-a-kind begonia planters celebrate the Einstein Begonia, a plant with a documented lineage tracing back to the legendary physicist himself. Each pot is wheel-thrown and hand-finished by me, Alex Schupp, and comes with a propagated cutting from this remarkable botanical heirloom.

The Origin of the Einstein Begonia ๐ฟ
The story begins in the 1940s, when Einstein lived and worked at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. A cutting from a begonia on Einstein’s windowsill was passed on — generation by generation — through caretakers and local enthusiasts.
“Einstein’s begonia has endured far longer than most of his belongings,” writes Princeton Alumni Weekly in this article.
Thanks to my good friend and fellow Veterans to Farmers board member, Richard Murphy, I was gifted a healthy cutting from his personal plant collection — one of the most cherished plants in his care. Rich passed this down to me as a thank you after hosting Veterans to Farmers classes in my downtown Denver studio.
๏ปฟNow, I’m proud to share cuttings from this same lineage — paired with handmade pots that honor Einstein’s genius and legacy.

How to Care for Your Einstein Begonia ๐งโ๏ธ
Begonias are resilient and stunning — but they thrive with the right care:
Light:
Bright, indirect light is ideal. A north or east-facing window works best.
Watering:
Let the top inch of soil dry out between waterings. Do not overwater.
Humidity:
Begonias love humidity. Mist occasionally or place on a pebble tray with water.
Feeding:
Use a diluted balanced fertilizer once a month during spring and summer.
Propagation Tips โ๏ธ
Einstein’s begonia continues to live on because of propagation!
๏ปฟ
Here’s how to share the legacy:
- Take a healthy 4–6" stem cutting with a couple of leaves.
- Place it in water or moist soil.
- Roots will form in 2–3 weeks.
- Replant into fresh soil — and pass it on to a friend!
