Raku Pottery Workshop | Saturday May 16 2026, 10am-2pm
Step into the world of raku firing for an immersive, hands-on ceramics experience centered around fire, smoke, and instant results.
In this small-group workshop, each participant will select a pre-made ceramic vessel and take part in a traditional raku firing, with kiln temperatures reaching up to 1850°F. I’ll guide you through every step of the process, from glaze selection and application, to understanding how heat, atmosphere, and reduction affect the final surface.
While your main vessel heats in the kiln, you won’t be waiting around. Each participant will also get to complete two microwave raku firings using mini pots or vessels, allowing you to experiment with rapid firing, crackle effects, and surface variation.
Once your main piece is ready, I’ll safely remove it from the kiln and we’ll finish it together using reduction techniques or organic applications such as horsehair, pet hair, feathers, and other natural materials, creating dramatic smoke markings and one-of-a-kind patterns.
Best part: raku cools fast. Your finished pieces will be cool enough to take home the same day.
No prior ceramics experience is required: this workshop is equal parts education, experimentation, and pure fire-fueled fun.
